NY Alerts: Permitted sewage discharge into the Hudson River, 9:50p.m. last night.
Washington County reported last night through the NY Alerts system that a pump station at 35 Bridge St. in Hudson Falls has overflowed due to heavy rain and is discharging untreated sewage into the Hudson River. The expected discharge will reach about 55,000 gallons.
Given the strain on the Combined Sewer System (a system that contains both rain and sewage for processing in a wastewater treatment plan), this is considered a permitted discharge, or Combined Sewage Overflow, under the regulations of the Department of Environmental Conservation. Because it is untreated sewage, there is a chance of public health problems.
“During or following a significant rainfall or snowmelt event, the public should avoid contact or recreation (swimming, boating, and fishing) within the waterbody that has CSO outfalls,” the DEC’s website says.
ABJ: Capitol District Supply sold
N&S Supply, a family-owned subsidiary of a publicly-traded parent company, bought the family-owned Capitol District Supply in late March, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. At the same time, Capitol’s general manager Adam Zima bought his company’s property from his father and uncle who can now retire. Adam Zima will operate both the N&S and the Capitol Supply stores for the parent Watsco corporation.
