Officials eye cement plant closing
The Lehigh Hanson Cement Co. plant on Warren Street in Glens Falls and Queensbury will be good for the environment, but the loss of 85 high-paying jobs has a regional impact, a story in the Post-Star says. Employees live in the tri-county area, and other businesses that use the “Iron Clad” cement or supply materials to the plant will be affected. With the labor market as tight as it is, officials are hopeful that the 85 people to become unemployed will find work, but maybe not at their current wages. The plant is considered one of the larger greenhouse gas emitters in the area.
