DEC approves Saratoga Biochar’s participation plan, CAAN pushes back
Saratoga Biochar Solutions has set an online-only public hearing for Monday Dec. 19, a meeting the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has approved, the Post-Star is reporting. The meeting is part of Biochar’s public participation plan, a step in the DEC permitting process for the company. The company is proposing a factory that would transform dried human waste into carbon fertilizer. Local environmental group CAAN is fighting the plant both in court and regarding this participation plan, which it says should be live and should have reached more people in the affected area.
