ABJ: Siena College’s Geothermal push
Siena College is still burning fossil fuels, even with a large, new geothermal heat pump system in Patricia Gioia Hall, the campus’ welcome center, the Albany Business Journal reports. A geothermal system circulated water through pipes and wells deep in the ground and then back to the building’s HVAC system where it cools or heats the air. The system does not burn fuel on campus, though it takes electricity to run, and in the coldest months, the school uses a gas-burning furnace to help, the story says.
