NY Alerts: »Fire watch in effect TODAY. »Fort Ann sewage overflow.
Heavy rains again affected a water treatment system, this time in Ft. Ann
Partially treated wastewater overflowed an aeration tank at the wastewater treatment plant and entered Halfway Brook near 9 Canal St. in Fort Ann. Torrential rain caused the overflow of about 5,000 gallans which lasted about two hours “before the rain slowed and the overflow stopped.” This, according to a NY Alert from just after 7 p.m. April 6. The fishing area from the brook to the Champlain Canal is affected.
“During or following a significant rainfall or snowmelt event, the public should avoid contact or recreation (swimming, boating, and fishing) within the waterbody that has CSO outfalls,” the DEC’s website says. We reported yesterday on a similar overflow in Hudson Falls. Read that here.

Burning is prohibited in towns with more than 20,000 residents, as well as all villages and cities. Smoke contains particulates, known as soot, and gases, such as carbon monoxide, that are hazardous to health, a statement from the state reads. Read more about that here.
